Turnover means rekeying, and rekeying means keeping a record of which unit takes which key. We handle changeovers between tenants, set up keyed-alike groups for common doors, and keep your building's key schedule straight so you are never guessing.
EmergencyHome Lockout ServiceAfter a week of humid weather the back door has swollen in its frame.
The fix
Winter creates its own kind of lockout. Meltwater runs into a keyway during the day and freezes overnight, a weather-exposed cylinder stiffens in the cold, and a door that shrank in January may drop its bolt out of line with the strike.
EmergencyBusiness Lockout ServiceMinus eighteen with a wind, and the exterior cylinder on the shop door has frozen solid overnight after yesterday's slush.
The fix
On a commercial door the lock is rarely alone. A door contact feeds the alarm panel, a card reader drives an electric strike or a magnetic lock, and a monitoring company is watching for an opening outside business hours.
EmergencyBroken Key ExtractionThat key had been bending a little for years, and you kept straightening it.
The fix
The tools are simple and precise. A hook extractor is a thin strip of spring steel with a barb at the tip; it slides along the groove of the keyway above or below the fragment, snags one of the cuts, and walks it out.
EmergencyBreak-In Damage Lock RepairThe shop's aluminum door has a bent meeting stile and the hookbolt is jammed half out.
The fix
Break-ins seldom come through the door with the strongest lock. Sliding patio doors are lifted off their track or pried at the latch, the garage man-door carries a light knob lock, a basement walkout is out of sight, and a storefront's narrow-stile deadbolt sits behind a bendable aluminum edge.
EmergencySeized & Jammed Lock OpeningThe key slides all the way in, exactly as it has for years, and then refuses to turn in either direction.
The fix
A jammed lock looks like one problem from outside and is usually one of three inside. The cylinder itself may have seized, packed with grit, corrosion or old grease.
Most calls start with a question rather than a decision: is this lock worth saving, should the whole house be rekeyed, does a smart lock make sense on an older door. We would rather answer that properly than sell you a part. We look at the hardware, the door and how you use it, then lay out the choices and their trade-offs in plain words.
You know what is happening. From the first look to the last turn of the key, we narrate the job in plain terms. You should never wonder what we are doing to your door.
Suggestions, not pressure. If we think an upgrade would help, we say so once and explain why. If you decline, that is the end of it.
The old parts handled. Removed locks and keys are given to you or taken away as you prefer. Old keys that no longer work are worth destroying, and we will do that if you like.
A lock is a small part with a big job, and the same is true of the work around it. Whether you need a door opened, a new key made or a whole building put on one system, the pages below explain what each service involves and when it makes sense.

This section is for things that cannot wait: a door that will not let you in, a door that will not keep others out, a key in pieces, a lock frozen or seized. Each page says what we do on arrival and what we check before leaving.

Rather than guess at what a house needs, we walk it with you. Front, side, back, garage, basement, gate. For each door we note the lock, how it fits and how it is used, then suggest changes in order of usefulness.

In a home, high security hardware fits on the doors you lock every night. For businesses, it fits on the rooms that would hurt most to lose. The page here explains what a high security cylinder, strike and key system do for each and how a visit is arranged.

The cash office, the stockroom, the server closet and the medication cupboard need locks that behave differently from the front door. Commercial services cover those internal doors with cylinders, keying and, where it fits, access control that records who opened what.
Car keysCar KeysA snapped car key rarely snaps cleanly.Services
A snapped car key rarely snaps cleanly. Extraction from a door lock or ignition takes fine tools and patience, and once the fragment is out we check the wafers were not bent before cutting a fresh key.
The builder handed over your new home with a stack of identical keys, and you know the framing crew, the painters and the flooring installers all used a construction key during the build. The doors are brand new, but the key that opens them should be yours alone.
You have lost count of how many people have had a key to your house over the years: cleaners, a contractor, a former partner, the previous owner's family. The lock still works, but you no longer know who else it works for.
The bolt on the front door is keyed on both sides. Getting out at night means finding the key in the dark, and with a toddler in the house you have decided the inside should turn by hand. You want it done properly, not just swapped.
Outdoor locks live a harder life. We check the gate alignment, the exposure to rain and freezing, and how it is used before recommending hardware.

Homes of every age. About 38% of homes in King were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Mixed housing ages mean the advice changes door by door. An older solid-wood entry may want a strike reinforced; a newer steel door may want its short strike screws swapped. The locksmith looks at the door in front of him rather than assuming.
87%
Mostly houses. Single-detached houses make up about 87% of homes in King (2021 Census).
In areas of single houses, the door nobody watches is the side or back entry. It often has the weakest lock on the property. Fitting a proper deadbolt and a reinforced strike there is a modest job that closes the obvious gap.
I have just bought a house. What should I do about the locks?
Assume that copies of the old keys exist somewhere and act on the day you take possession. Walk every exterior door with the locksmith, keep hardware that is sound and have it rekeyed to a new key, replace hardware that is worn or too light, and add a deadbolt to any door that lacks one. Ask for everything to be keyed alike so you leave with one key and a known number of copies.
Is a smart lock a good upgrade, and what happens when the batteries run out?
For a household with many people coming and going, codes that can be added and removed are a real convenience. Behind the keypad it is still a deadbolt, so grade and strike matter as much as ever. Batteries typically last months and the lock warns you as they fade; depending on the model, a dead battery is handled with a mechanical override key or with external contacts for a temporary power source, so it is worth confirming which one your lock uses.
My old house has a mortise lock. Can it take modern hardware?
Often the original case can be kept and given a new cylinder and strike, which keeps the period look and the old door intact. Where the case is beyond service, a filler or conversion plate covers the mortise pocket and lets a cylindrical deadbolt or knob set be fitted without cutting into the door's stile. The locksmith looks at the door before recommending either path, since old doors vary a great deal.
What proof do I need to show before locks are changed?
The locksmith confirms that the person ordering the work is entitled to change the locks: the owner, a tenant with the landlord's agreement, or a property or facilities manager for a business. Photo identification and something linking you to the address usually settle it, and for a company a letter or a call to the named contact does the same. It protects you as much as anyone, since the same check stops someone else from changing your locks.
